Why did you choose to work at Taoglas?
I joined Taoglas 3 years ago with over 25 years of experience working in start-up, scale-up, SME, and large multi-national companies. Choosing Taoglas came down to a few items, namely the culture, that it was Irish-owned and that it was in the technology space. Given the ambitions that Taoglas outlined to me, I also felt that my experience could drive growth and success for the company.
How has Taoglas supported you in your career?
The autonomy and trust in my delivery has greatly helped me achieve what is both best for IT and for Taoglas itself. The projects are ambitious and offer a great sense of satisfaction once completed. Exposure and a lack of fear when it comes to new technologies has opened plenty of new fields of learning.
What advice do you have for people just starting out in their career in your field?
Patience and consideration. Many folks don’t appreciate the depth of knowledge that is needed for IT not to mention that a willingness to constantly learn is a must as the field is an incredibly fast paced area that is constantly changing. A CIO I worked for always talked about going slow to move fast. A well planned out task or project will generally be a successful one. A rushed delivery will grow problems.
What motivates you at work?
The ability to deliver great technologies in a very cool space. The team I have motivates me hugely – both watching them grow into experienced professionals and the collaboration they bring.
Before joining Taoglas what other roles did you hold?
Within my field I have worked as a DBA, Unix technical lead, network engineer, Operations manager for EMEA and Senior Director for Operations within a $1B company with 40 sites to manage and a team of 60 technicians
How are we different from other companies?
Really, I have to repeat that the culture is a breath of fresh air. Access and participation in strategic decisions within the company. The trust offered makes me feel that I am a key part of the company. I am trying to resist using the word “family” but too late – I’ve said it now.
